عمر گزشتہ 1815 کے بر صغیر کی کہانی ہے۔ اس کہانی میں سازش، سیاست اور طاقت کی بو گھلی ہوئی ہے۔ کوئی نہیں جانتا لڑائی کس کے خلاف ہے لیکن فاتح صرف وہی ہوگا جس کی نیت صاف ہو۔ عمومی طور پر ہر سیاسی جنگ کو شطرنج کی بساط سے تشبیہہ دی جاتی ہے۔ یہ کہانی بھی ویسی ہی ہے لیکن اس بساط پر ہر مہرہ چلنے سے پہلے کرداروں کو سانپ سیڑھی کا کھیل کھیلنا ہوگا۔ اٹھ کر گرنا ہوگا، گر کر اٹھنا ہوگا
